DEMON LUNG: Pitchfork Premieres Second Track From Forthcoming Album

Pitchfork.com has premiered “Heathen Child,” from Demon Lung’s forthcoming full-length debut. It’s the second song released from The Hundredth Name set for release via Candlelight Records on June 4. The conceptual album was produced by Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep) and features artwork by English illustrator Tom Bates (Vision of Disorder, Amorphis).

Discussing the song, drummer Jeremy Brenton reveals, “‘Heathen Child’ is the fifth track on the record and is definitely one of our favorites to play live. We got the gnarliest guitar tone at the end of that song. It’s the part of the story where our hero, the warlock, kills an unbaptized male child in order to make a flying potion from his fat. Don’t try this at home, especially without a sharp knife.”

Hear “Heathen Child” at THIS LOCATION.

Early reviews of The Hundredth Name are encouraging. Sludgelord.com writes, “The Hundredth Name is a masterpiece from top to toe… this IS doom.” Metal Review says, “This is a band that knows how to make doom metal dramatic,” while Vegas Seven adds, “Demon Lung’s debut record destroys. Literate and lacerating, the ‘Lung breathes real fire.” With the album’s full impact at metal radio nationwide set for this coming Monday, it is an album that will find a rightful place in the collections of doom and metal fans round the globe.

Formed in 2011, Demon Lung self-released Pareidolia in early 2012. The band was dubbed “Earthy-yet-horror-themed doom metal,” by Metal Hammer and, “One of the best new bands out there,” by PureGrainAudio. Signing with Candlelight Records last Autumn, the band featuring vocalist Shanda Fredrick, guitarist Phil Burns, bassist Patrick Warren, with drummer Brenton, entered Oakland-based Sharkbite Studios in mid-December. Emerging a few weeks later, the album was turned over to Billy Anderson to work his mixing magic. Fredrick notes, “Working with Billy was a dream come true for us. He helped us craft something we are very proud of.”

Demon Lung continues to perform live as the album’s release draws near. Confirmed performances are noted below.

HAVOK: Unnatural Selection Set For Release

Candlelight Records confirms June 25 as the North American release date for Unnatural Selection, the new studio recording from Denver thrashers Havok. The ten-song album was produced by David Sanchez with mixing handled by Terry Date (Pantera, Overkill, Deftones). Unnatural Selection features original artwork from Polish illustrator Rafal Wechterowicz (Slayer, Mastodon) and was mastered by James Murphy (Aborted, World Under Blood, Abigail Williams).

“Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death,” the first single from Unnatural Selection, will hit Loud Rock/Metal radio on May 27. The topical song is a furious and urgent anthem that displays the band’s classic thrash and old school metal sound. Vocalist/guitarist David Sanchez ignites the fret board and barks the righteous lyrics while drummer Pete Webber punishes his immense kit. The song’s towering sound benefits from the unique acoustics of the old theater that was utilized as one of the many recording locations for the album. “I am super pumped on how the drums came out,” chimes Webber. “We recorded the drums in a theater to get a huge sound. It was a challenging experience for me between time constraints and the drum parts having much more feeling in them. I believe the added pressure made for some really awesome stuff. I can’t wait to unleash this album to the world.”

Unnatural Selection bears a far more mature collection of songs when compared to Burn (2009), and Time Is Up (2011). Havok has truly hit their mark with a sound that will please fans new and old. Additional album standouts include album opener “I Am The State,” “Chasing The Edge,” and the band’s rendition of the Black Sabbath classic “Children of the Grave.”

Unnatural Selection Track Listing:

  • 1. I Am The State
  • 2. Give Me Liberty… Or Give Me Death
  • 3. It Is True
  • 4. Under the Gun
  • 5. Waste of Life
  • 6. Untitled
  • 7. Chasing the Edge
  • 8. Worse Than War
  • 9. Children of the Grave
  • 10. Unnatural Selection

Havok will premiere material from Unnatural Selection tomorrow when they take the stage for the start of their European tour with Suffocation and Cephalic Carnage. The 28-city tour begins in Genève, Switzerland and will conclude in Munchen, Germany on June 8. Before departing for Europe, the band performed at a Denver Benefit. Sanchez comments, “We were honored to be part of HaneyStock. The show was a benefit for Chris Haney who was a bartender at the Gothic Theatre in our hometown who was senselessly murdered trying to break up a fight. All proceeds from the show are going to his young daughter. It was a great event that celebrated the life of an outstanding individual.”

Havok has planned three special record release performances. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at venue box offices and companion ticket agencies. A copy of Unnatural Selection will be included with ticket purchase to these area performances. Havok is planning a full North American tour for early summer. Details will be announced shortly. For a full list of dates on their European tour visit the band’s official Facebook page HERE.

SADGIQACEA: Invisible Oranges Now Playing Entire Debut LP

Philadelphia’s genre-morphing duo Sadgiqacea today celebrates the official North American release of their debut album, False Prism. Recorded by Chris Grigg (Woe), the sprawling forty-minute album projects the organic, monstrous tones and unified, distinctive style which has helped the two-piece act become one of Philly’s hottest live acts over the past two years. The record features virtually no overdubs or studio trickery, the band wishing to preserve the authentic recording quality of their live performances.

In coordination with the street date of False Prism, today the diehards at Invisible Oranges/Brooklyn Vegan are streaming the entire album, RIGHT HERE.

Formed in 2010, Sadgiqacea (pronounced sad-juh-kay-sha) forges a diverse sonic palette that has been likened at times to Neurosis, Intronaut, Hull, The Atlas Moth, Weakling, and Kylesa. Musically and artistically, the band draws from a melting pot of influences that together presents a lush yet tension-filled sound. The band calls it, “music for our trodden minds and sodden souls.” In a continuing effort to bring their craft to public forums, the band is finalizing the details for a bulky tour set to take place through most of July and well into August, joined by local cohorts Hivelords. The full tour routing will be announced in the coming days.

“In order to properly hone that organic process, producer (and Woe mastermind) Chris Grigg captured the exquisite bedlam of False Prism in alive recording scenario’ with minimal overdubs and no studio trickery.” – Decibel

“…False Prism, their excellent full-length debut due May 7 on Candlelight, indicates that a limited membership doesn’t entail diminished ideas or abilities. They bridge thrash and doom, black metal and drone, field recordings and power metal into often-seamless long-form pieces.” – Pitchfork

“The Philadelphia two-piece’s epic sludge-doom sprinkles in moments of post-rock, Neurosis-y riffage and black metal across their four-track effort…” – Invisible Oranges

“Their song structures are smooth and varied, progressive in scope, and the record’s unsettling psychedelia is very engaging, adding a wanton mystery to their barrage of riffs.” – About.com

DEMON LUNG: Exclusive Song Premiere Via Cvlt Nation

Cvlt Nation has premiered “Eyes of Zamiel,” the first new song from Las Vegas-based doomsters Demon Lung. The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming full-length debut, titled The Hundredth Name. Click HERE to listen to “Eyes of Zamiel.”

Discussing the song, drummer Jeremy Brenton reveals, “‘Eyes of Zamiel’ is the third song in the album’s storyline and sets up the plot lyrically. As a song, it represents a little of everything that we did on the album with groove in the verses, slower epic parts, and vocal harmonies.” “Eyes of Zamiel” has inspired a limited t-shirt which features an illustration from Juha Voorma (Edge of Sanity, Autopsy, In the Woods). The shirt is available now via the band’s official webstore.

Formed in 2011, Demon Lung self-released the Pareidolia EP (Bandcamp exclusive) in early 2012. “Earthy-yet-horror-themed doom metal,” said Metal Hammer of the release. “One of the best new bands out there,” proclaimed PureGrainAudio. Signing with Candlelight last autumn, the band entered Oakland-based Sharkbite Studios in December. Emerging a few weeks later, the album was turned over to Anderson to work his regarded magic. Songstress Shanda Fredrick comments, “Working with Billy was a dream come true for us. He is a fifth member of the band, a mentor, and all-around awesome friend. He helped us craft something that we are very proud of.”

Demon Lung continues to perform live, building up momentum as the days draw closer to album release. Confirmed upcoming performances are included below. Comments Fredrick, “I am looking forward to playing the new material live. We’ve had some of these songs for a while so it’s great to finally play them in front of an audience. FEAR FACTORY: Brings The Industrialist To North American Venues

Fear Factory will embark on their first full headlining tour in support of 2012’s conceptual mega-album The Industrialist. Performances begin next week, with the tour set to visit 38 cities throughout the US and Canada. The tour represents the first live dates by the band on American soil in nearly a year. The World Industrialist tour will feature support from Hate Eternal and Kobra And The Lotus.

Speaking with Full Metal Jackie, vocalist Burton C. Bell describes The Industrialist as, “a very deliberate album and one that came about very naturally to us. There is something so tight about the album. Focus is the one thing that is on this record that doesn’t really appear on any of our other records. The focus of the music, the sounds, the aggression and the concept. Everything had its purpose and we knew exactly what we were doing and what we had to do.”

The Industrialist wraps itself around a tale written by vocalist Burton C. Bell. While the “story” was spelt out more expansively in the deluxe book edition of the album (which also featured two additional songs), the plot is rooted both in forward-thinking science fiction and contemporary events. Prior to its June 5, 2012 release, excitement was already building for the album – the second from the reunited nucleus of Bell and guitarist Dino Cazares. “There isn’t a record that I’m looking forward to more than The Industrialist,” said Revolver editor Brandon Geist. “North America is chompin’ at the bit to get an ear full of new Fear Factory,” added Sirius/XM Metal Director Jose Mangin. “Recharger,” the album’s lead single premiered on April 24 and within 24 hours had over 100,000 listens.

Produced by Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly), and mixed by Greg Reely (Paradise Lost/Machine Head), The Industrialist features additional tracking by Logan Mader (Gojira/Divine Heresy) and artwork by Anthony Clarkson (Devin Townsend). It is Fear Factory at its most confident and passionate; the band bringing every sonic weapon in its arsenal to the fore. Revisiting and refining the sweeping melodies and unforgettable songwriting that will forever distinguish Fear Factory from all others, the sound and creative storyline of The Industrialist immediately carved itself a spot on the short list of Best Metal Albums of 2012. The album debuted on the Billboard Top 40 for its initial release week. The record maintained the Top position on CMJ’s Hard Rock chart for three consecutive weeks. It was a resident of the Top 10 for eight weeks and ended 2012 on their Top Year chart at position seven.

The World Industrialist Tour will find Fear Factory performing fan favorites plus select songs from The Industrialist and 2010’s Mechanize. Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster and all venue box offices. The video for “The Industrialist,” directed by James Zahn, can be viewed HERE. A special tour video by Dino Cazares can be viewed HERE.

DEMON LUNG Full-Length Debut To Be Released June 4

Candlelight Records today confirms June 4th as the North American release date for The Hundredth Name, the full-length debut from Las Vegas-based epic doom band Demon Lung. The eight-song album was recorded with Adam Myatt and Billy Anderson (Neurosis, The Melvins, Sleep). It features artwork by English illustrator Tom Bates (Vision of Disorder, Amorphis).

The Hundredth Name is a conceptual album as previously confirmed by drummer Jeremy Brenton. Its story line follows, “The long-begotten son of Satan, who’s been sent to earth to assemble the three parts of the devil’s bible so that we can speak the name of God in reverse and undo creation.” Songstress Shanda Fredrick adds, “We have had the concept idea for the album for a few years. We have just been waiting until we signed to a proper label to finish writing it. Working with Billy was a dream come true for us. He has been like a fifth member of the band, a mentor, and just an all-around awesome friend. He helped us craft something that we are very proud of.”

Formed in 2011, Demon Lung features guitarist Phil Burns and bassist Patrick Warren, with Fredrick and Brenton. The band has a singular EP, Pareidolia (Bandcamp 2012), currently available. The recording was favorably received by international media. “Earthy-yet-horror-themed doom metal a-la Candlemass,” said Metal Hammer. “Their hazy atmosphere and unorthodox way of playing guitar in a doom metal band is an interesting approach that doom fans should immediately check out,” noted Metal Archives. “Their music is clearly from the soul,” added Ave Noctum. In their still short history, the band has performed alongside Pentagram, High on Fire, Jucifer, Witch Mountain, and Castle, among others.

The Hundredth Name Track Listing:
1. Binding of the Witch
2. Devil’s Wind
3. Eyes of Zamiel
4. A Decade Twice Over A Day
5. Heathen Child
6. Hex Mark
7. Hallowed Ground
8. Incantation (The Hundredth Name)

Demon Lung has announced the following dates in April. Additionally, the band are set as a featured performer at the third installment of the Doom In June Festival (also featuring The Skull, Manilla Road, Karma To Burn, Ancestors, Las Cruces, Castle and more). Doom In June is sponsored by Heavy Planet, Planet Fuzz, Doom Metal Alliance, and Hellride Music.

HAVOK: Premiere New Video As They Continue Work On New Album

Denver thrashers Havok have premiered their latest video for the song “From The Cradle To The Grave” from their 2012 EP, The Point Of No Return, via the band’s official Facebook page. The video, directed by Roy Warner, was filmed on location in Detroit during the band’s final tour of 2012 alongside Skeletonwitch. The premiere coincides with the band’s continued work on their anticipated Terry Date produced third full-length album.

Discussing the song’s lyrical inspiration, vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez says, “‘From The Cradle To The Grave’ is about America’s first serial killer, H.H. Holmes. In the late 1800s, in Chicago, Holmes built a hotel specifically with murder in mind. It included doors that opened up to brick walls, staircases that lead to nowhere, and one-way rooms that once you entered, you never came out. He was a religious man and firmly believed that since he was born, the Devil was at his side. That being said, bang your head.”

Havok will hit the road next week, teaming with Goatwhore and The Casualties. The dates will feature new bassist Michael Joseph Leon. Sanchez notes, “as many people have already heard, we recently parted ways with bassist Jesse De Los Santos. It was a mutual split and we wish Jesse all the best. I’d like to thank Jesse for the four years of killing it in studio and on stage. With that being said, we’d like to introduce our new four-string monster, Mike Leon. Mike is a fantastic bassist and a veteran of the road from his years of touring with The Absence. We are very happy to have him on board.”

Leon comments, “I’m completely honored to be a part of such a well-oiled machine and to have the opportunity to play with these dudes is a dream come true! Not only is Havok one of my favorite new heavy metal bands out in the scene, but the guys in the band are a few of the best dudes I know! You can definitely look forward to us kickin’ lots of ass together this year, and for many years to come.”

Havok expect to complete all work on their new record in the coming weeks. Album information and special pre-order details will be announced shortly.
