KING PARROT: Visits Housecore HQ; Video Posted + North American Takeover Continues

Currently on a conquest to shred the collective ears of North America, the thrash grind hooligans in King Parrot recently dropped by Housecore Records during their tour stop in New Orleans last week. The band systematically leveled Siberia following a chat with metal legends Philip H. Anselmo and Mike IX Williams about touring, new records, guitar lessons, and burning holes in the ground in the swamps of Louisiana!

King Parrot are only approaching the half-way mark of their live invasion and have a plethora of shows coming up all around the US and Canada. Additionally, the band will be returning to California by popular demand after laying waste to venues with Cattle Decapitation earlier this month.

*Newly added…

Among Australia’s most lethal and extreme new bands, King Parrot is touring in support of their Bite Your Head Off full-length released via Candlelight Records last year. Produced by Jason Fuller (Blood Duster, Dern Rutlidge) and Adam Calaitzis (Damaged, Abramelin), the record manages to capture the raw intensity of their live shows, defying genres with a cross section attack of thrash, grind, punk and hardcore.

“A nice little cross-up of musical ability and amusing visuals (the videos for ‘Dead End’ and ‘Shit On The Liver’ are quality viewing), King Parrot should be able to find their place in a relatively stale and average grind scene. And frankly, that’s what grind needs: A shot in the arm, a mix-up, and some well-intended goofiness… this should do it. 8.5/10″ – Dead Rhetoric

“Every track on Bite Your Head Off is a brutal showing of absolute speed, power and destruction…” – The Metalithic

“I’ve never felt so personally threatened by a record before” – Hysteria Magazine

“…a calculated piece of extreme art, with strong musicianship and a production job skilfully left just on the right side of raw and dirty…” – Beat.com

“…its ceaseless brutality will do much more than just rip your head off… from start to finish it tears you limb from limb 9/10″ – Ghost Cult

“Whether it’s ‘Dead End,’ the shortest, meanest track on the album, or ‘Cold Steel Probe,’ an infectious onslaught of multi-leveled grind that has no qualms about dragging coffins or simply setting them afire, King Parrot’s Bite Your Head Off is a no-brainer, comfortably taking a seat next to other 2012 entries like Strong Intention’s Razorblade Express, Mulletcorpse’s Disinfect, and Kess’khtak’s Nurturing Conditions For Rupture. Killer stuff.” – Metal Observer

KING PARROT: Australian Thrash Grind Assassins Level SXSW; March Through North America Continues

Melbourne thrash grind assassins, King Parrot, successfully leveled SXSW with five scathing performances, including an appearance at this year’s Tone Deaf Touring Showcase featuring Spirit Caravan, Iron Reagan, Pilgrim and more.

Comments the band, “King Parrot had an awesome experience at SXSW; total chaos, but all in all a hugely positive opportunity for the band to get out in front the world’s music industry and show our wares. The feedback we received from some industry heavyweights was that they enjoyed our show and it’s fair to say you’ll be hearing a lot more from King Parrot in the future. For now though, we carry on with our extensive North American tour.”

King Parrot is currently searing the eyes and ears of North America on a near-six-week run of live ambushes. The band is joined by atmospheric blackened doom bringers, Vattnet Viskar, and stoner death doomers, Vaporizer on select dates.

OCTOBER FILE: Return With Ambitious Fourth Studio Album

Candlelight Records today confirms June 10 as the North American release date for October File’s The Application of Loneliness, Ignorance, Misery, Love and Despair: An Introspective of the Human Condition. It is the fourth full-length studio album from the English post-punk quartet. The album was recorded at London’s Orgone Studios (Ghost, Electric Wizard, Guapo, Ulver) and produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Cathedral, Angel Witch, Gates of Slumber).

Metal Hammer Magazine today premiered “Heroes Are Welcome,” the album’s lead single. A special lyric video, created by 12 Inch Media’s Craig Gowans (Bleed From Within), spotlights the outspoken band’s always jeering lyrics. Speaking recently with Terrorizer Magazine about the album, bassist Steve Beatty notes, “other records have dealt with war, religion and in fact lyrical themes you would more expect to see on a crust punk record. This is why we decided to go in a totally different direction this time. We wanted to delve into personal experience more and not make it obvious we were doing so.”

Recording of the album took place in the early weeks of the new year. The band made decisive changes to both their writing approach and studio location. “We were keen to trying something new,” says Beatty. “We had recorded everything at the Outhouse in Reading but really felt it was time to try something new. We had heard some recordings from there and liked the way Jaime did things – all live, no samples.”

“It’s the first time we ever wrote anything with a pre-conceived idea,” continues Beatty. “The ideas of each individual track were discussed and music written to fit them. Usually we have musical ideas and put them together whilst Ben (Hollyer, vocals) wrote as the track fermented. This time it was different. It was for sure more of a challenge but it was good for us. We were made to work harder, especially Ben. He has written his best lyrics and pushed his voice into new directions.”

Inspired by a wide range of influences, from post-punk heroes like Killing Joke, Amebix, Godflesh and Gang Of Four through to the greats of rock, punk, industrial and underground metal, October File exploded into life with their 2004 debut album A Long Walk On A Short Pier and the How To Lose Friends And Alienate People (EP) from the same year. Embarking on a relentless slew of live performances which has seldom slowed since, the band proved their dedication to playing in front of anyone and everyone and duly attracted the attention of the UK rock and metal press.

Consolidating their notoriety with the release of two additional EPs Monuments (2005) and Hallowed Be Thy Army (2006), which marked the band’s upward shift to the prestigious Candlelight Records label, October File made friends with Killing Joke frontman Jaz Coleman who lent his vocal powers to the band’s second full-length album, Holy Armour From The Jaws Of God. Over the years that followed, October File has performed at numerous high profile festivals in the UK and Europe and have also toured with Killing Joke, Prong, Ministry and Fear Factory. The buzz around the band led to an association with Godflesh/Jesu main man Justin Broadrick who offered to produce one of two distinct versions of their third full-length album, Our Souls To You, which was released to a whirlwind of positive reviews in 2010.

Celebrating their ten year anniversary, October File are excited of the promise the new album allows them. The band is expected to return to the road shortly after album release; they have already confirmed their slot on this year’s Bloodstock Festival set for August 7-10 at Catton Hall in Derby. Ticket information is available at www.bloodstock.co.uk.

ABIGAIL WILLIAMS: 2014 Tour & New Album

Ever-evolving metal purveyors Abigail Williams will celebrate a decade of plying their dark arts with a 30-city US headlining tour and a new portfolio of songs. For this early 2014 outing, vocalist/guitarist Ken Sorceron will be jointed by guitarist Jeff Wilson, bassist John Porada (both ex-Nachtmystium), and drummer Charlie Fell (ex-Nachtmystium, Von) In the studio, Wilson and long-time Abigail Williams guitarist Ian Jekelis will work with Sorceron on a full-length to be recorded in Chicago in April. Drummer Alex Rudinger (The Faceless) and bassist Will Lindsay (ex-Nachtmystium, Wolves In The Throne Room) are slated to complete the ensemble. Fans should expect a release via Candlelight this later this year.

“Touring and recording are two different things in my mind,” Sorceron says. “Certain people you want around in the studio and certain people are more suitable in a live situation. Abigail Williams has never had a real solid line-up going from recording to live; we have always kept it moving.”

On tour, Abigail Williams will perform their critically acclaimed 2012 album Becoming in its entirety. They will complete their headlining set list with selections from their genre-blending past and uncompromising new future.

With regard to the band’s genre, Sorceron doesn’t particularly care if people use the term “black metal” to describe the band and realizes many use it simply as a convenient way to classify the music. “To some people, it’s up for debate as to whether what we play is black metal or not. To me it doesn’t matter either way. I’m not thinking about genres when writing music.”

Abigail Williams is hard to place in today’s landscape of what is described as US black metal. Since their inception in 2004, the group has continuously changed personnel, and with each new performer, came a new musical influence. The only thing that has remained constant is Sorceron who is constantly seeking new personal experiences to inspire songs and developing innovative combinations of sound that defy neat-and-easy categorization. Like the girl the band was named for – the chief accuser in the Salem Witch Trials – Abigail Williams keeps changing their story and their sound.

“The thing about Abigail Williams is that we never fit into any landscape,” Sorceron says. “I’ve become pretty comfortable with that role. I used to read the criticism about the band on the internet, but I stopped a while ago. People aren’t comfortable liking a band that has changed sound over the years.”

Sorceron emphasizes that Abigail Williams is not a “brand” but rather a conduit for artistic expression. “My observation over the years has been that music fans tend to think of a band as a brand. It’s the same, as clothing in some ways. Like when someone decides they won’t be caught dead wearing XYZ brand because they sell at ‘insert lame store name here’ and ‘these types of people’ like it. I’m not oblivious to the fact that a lot of fans of our early stuff don’t like the newer stuff, and that a lot of the people that like the new stuff hate the old stuff. It is a challenge for some to follow us because of this brand connection. For me, Abigail Williams is a creative outlet and vehicle to go to places I want to see and connect with like-minded people.”

As of late, Sorceron has found like-minded connections with the members of Lord Mantis and recently joined the band and performed on their latest recording, Death Mask. However, he says he keeps Abigail Williams in motion because, “it is what I do.”

EARTH CRISIS: Lyric Video From Salvation Of Innocents Released

Salvation Of Innocents, the epic new album from Earth Crisis, is nearing release worldwide, its street date for North America now slated for March 18th.

The focal point of Salvation Of Innocents is aimed at ending human injustices towards animals and the environment in the ever-antagonistic Earth Crisis style, and as boldly exemplified in the brand new lyric video for the album’s second of twelve massive tracks, “Out Of The Cages.” Through underground activist footage the band’s lyrical intent with the song is unquestionable, and their vibrant, modern tone is ultra apparent in the musical backdrop for of the video. Stated guitarist Scott Crouse of the track, “‘Out Of The Cages’ is one of my favorite songs on Salvation… Everyone watch the lyric video, and do your homework, because it’ll be a live set staple for sure.”

Revolver today helped let the new Earth Crisis message “Out Of The Cages” AT THIS LOCATION.

Preorders for the CD and LP versions of Salvation Of Innocents can be placed HERE, and via iTunes HERE.

Next week, from Friday, March 7th through Sunday the 9th, Earth Crisis will tackle Baltimore, Maryland, Amityville, New York and Quincy, Massachusetts on a quick run in support of Salvation Of Innocents with support from Gut Feeling. More widespread live appearances will be announced shortly.

Earth Crisis Tour Dates w/ Gut Feeling:

  • 3/07/2014 Charm City Art – Baltimore, MD
  • 3/08/2014 Revolution Bar & Music Hall – Amityville, NY
  • 3/09/2014 PRC – Quincy, MA

The seventh official studio full-length from Syracuse-based vegan straightedge hardcore pioneers, Earth Crisis, and the band’s first release for Candlelight Records, Salvation Of Innocents was recorded by the band themselves then mixed by Zeuss (Agnostic Front, Terror, Hatebreed), thundering with twelve brand new anthems which boast some of the band’s most modern-sounding and streamlined material as well as some of their most epic elements to date. Conceptually, Salvation Of Innocents is paired with a comic book by Black Mask Studios, founded by Matt Pizzolo (Occupy Comics) with partners Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and Brett Gurewitz (Bad Religion) — entitled Liberator, which brings the book’s main character and the Salvation of the Innocents vivisection concept together in a commanding graphic landscape through original cover art from Chicago-based illustrator/painter Menton3 and additional illustrations by Rod Reis, Javier Aranda, and Joaquin Pereyra.

THE WOUNDED KINGS: New Hymn Now Playing At Vice/Noisey

With its release just a little more than a month away, today the sound peddlers at Vice/Noisey thrust forth “Consolamentum,” from English progressive doom cultists, The Wounded Kings.

The tune comes by way of the band’s impending new full-length of the same name. Dark, desolate, at times emphatically sinister, Consolamentum — listed among The Obelisk’s most anticipated albums of the year — was produced by sound wizard Chris Fielding (Electric Wizard, Primordial, Winterfylleth et al). Recorded and mixed in just six days completely live during one of the hottest weeks of the year in a studio miles away from civilization, the seven sprawling tracks that comprise Consolamentum capture a sentiment of isolation, doom and gloom in ways few acts can. Led by the comsuming vocals of front woman Sharie Neyland, who seemingly casts spells with her apocalyptic words of wisdom, The Wounded Kings churn a singular heaviness that’s difficult to dismiss.

Boasts Vice/Noisey of the title track, “One of the strongest assets of English doomers The Wounded Kings is the soaring gothic vocals of Sharie Neyland, who’s croon sails eerily over the band’s massive riffs and ominous keyboards. It’s clear that elements of My Dying Bride’s massive sound is a strong influence, one that sustains in the title track from the band’s LP Consolamentum.”

Get gloomy with “Consolamentum,” now streaming at Vice/Noisey at THIS LOCATION.

Overcoming numerous lineup shifts since their formation in 2005, The Wounded Kings — Neyland, guitarist/keyboardist Steve Mills, guitarist Alex Kearney, bassist Al Eliadis, and drummer Myke Heath — have continually stunned audiences with their commanding stage personae. The two-time Roadburn alumni are adored by attendees and popular festival promoters, who call the band, “British doom of staggering power that is made all the more distinct by the unsettling presence of singer Sharie Neyland, who stands on stage almost trance-like, invoking her lyrics in a chanted voice that holds the entire venue in thrall.” To date the Dartmoor-based five piece has released three full-length studio albums and a well-received split album with Richmond, Virginia’s Cough. The band has been finding a growing American audience since the release of 2011′s In The Chapel Of The Black Hand, the first offering to feature Neyland.

Consolamentum will be released in North America via Candlelight Records February 25, 2014. Digital preorders are currently available via iTunes HERE.

“The Wounded Kings have a mystical and mythical quality which makes them an enormously appealing prospect…” — Terrorizer

“The Wounded Kings sound is so organic that the room actually starts to feel damp and musty…” — Blabbermouth

EARTH CRISIS: Unveils Salvation of Innocents

Candlelight Records today confirms March 3 for Europe and 4 as the North American release date for Salvation of Innocents, the label debut from hardcore/metal pioneers Earth Crisis. Mixed by Zeuss (Agnostic Front, Terror, Hatebreed), the album and its lead single, “The Morbid Glare,” will be available for pre-order via iTunes and other digital platforms beginning January 20/21.

Salvation of Innocents features twelve new tracks from the Syracuse-formed band. Production of the bold concept album offered the respected five-piece an extraordinary recording experience. Guitarist Scott Crouse shares, “the process for this album was new for us. We did most of it ourselves. The absence of pressure having to get things done by a certain time each day really gave us the freedom to try new ideas and critically listen to the songs. From the music, to the lyrical concept, to the comic book that brings the lyrics to life, we think we’ve created something pretty unique.”

The comic book Crouse mentions is the pairing of EC with Black Mask Studios’ Liberator comic. The hard-edged vigilante comic series will release its fifth edition simultaneously with the release of Salvation. The Matt Miner created comic brings its main character and the Salvation of the Innocents’ vivisection concept together in a commanding graphic landscape. Black Mask Studios co-founder Matt Pizzolo says, “it is crazy to me that it took twenty years for comics to produce a set of animal-minded vigilantes strong enough to roll with Earth Crisis. It is probably the most perfectly aligned superhero team-up ever.”

Salvation of Innocents and Liberator will share original cover art from Chicago-based illustrator/painter Menton3. The comic will feature additional works by illustrators Rod Reis, Javier Aranda, and Joaquin Pereyra. Liberator creator Matt Miner says, “working with Earth Crisis on the comic book side of Salvation of Innocents has been a dream project for me. Our styles, ethics, and ideologies are a fitting match and I’m super excited for folks to read the story.”

Fans pre-ordering Salvation of Innocents via iTunes will receive “The Morbid Glare,” as an immediate download as part of the digital outlet’s Instant Grab Track promotion. Pre-ordering will begin 24-hours prior to a special Lambgoat.com world premiere of the album track “De-Desensitize,” set for January 22. “Lambgoat is thrilled to be premiering a new Earth Crisis track,” proclaims editor Alex Arnold. “EC fans all over the world know what to expect from this reliable band, and they most certainly won’t be let down.”

Talking candidly about the album’s single, Crouse details, “’The Morbid Glare’ is a song that really challenged most of the band members mainly since it’s the fastest tempo we’ve ever written at. Ian wrote the majority of the song, and we all had a common goal of trying new things on this record. This is certainly new territory for us. Working at this speed for was uncomfortable at times” he says, “but we think the song really came out great in the end.”

No hardcore or metal fan can be unaware of Earth Crisis or the contributions the band has made to heavy music since their founding in 1989. Regardless of passing trends, the band has maintained their vision, dedication to their craft (and causes), and most importantly respected their fans. Media giants CNN, CBS, and MTV have applauded the straight-edge, vegan band that to date has released seven full-length albums, two EPs, and two live albums; their most recent album 2011’s Neutralize the Threat (Century Media).

Earth Crisis will kick off 2014 with a performance at the Tough Love Festival in Seattle. Set for February 15, the 3rd annual festival will take place at Studio 7 located at 110 S. Horton Street. Follow the festival’s official Facebook page for ticket details.

“Few bands command the respect that Earth Crisis does. They’ve earned it through twenty years of hard work and consistency. Contain, control to dominate! Contain, control, exterminate!” – Alex Arnold/Lambgoat

“Salvation of Innocents isn’t just the story of a badass vigilante rescuing animals. It’s a challenging hero story because it’s true, and it’s the type of heroism any of us can step up and do ourselves.” Matt Pizzolo/Blackmask Studios

“XXX” – Ray Harkins/Peta

“We are really excited for everyone to hear this album.” – Scott Crouse/Earth Crisis

SHRAPNEL: UK Thrashers Gear Up For Virus Conspires

Candlelight Records today confirms February 4 as the North American release date for The Virus Conspires, the full-length debut from English thrash metallers Shrapnel. Produced by Russ Russell (Napalm Death, Evile), it features artwork from Eliran Kantor (Testament, Athiest). The album and its lead single, “Titan,” will be available for preorder via iTunes and other digital platforms beginning January 7.

Fast, furious, and uncompromising, The Virus Conspires is propelled by its freshness and electric intensity. Sonically imposing and explosive, songs like “Braindead, “Red Terror,” and album opener “Kingdom Come,” are sure to quickly catapult the band to a global audience. Metal Hammer’s Dom Lawson has already proclaimed the band an up-and-comer. Commenting on the band’s sound, guitarist Chris Martin notes, “individually we are pretty different in our tastes but when we put it all together it works. For us, the energy in thrash is just so much more satisfying than anything else. It’s technically challenging and exhausting to play live and it gives you that buzz, that rush of adrenaline that few other genres do. It’s got to have balls and it’s got to have attitude. When you find a band that has that bite to them, that testosterone-driven aggression, its just killer. And that’s what we do.”

Formed in April 2009, the five-man wrecking crew initially bonded over their lack of a vibrant local metal scene. Driven to provide what few others seemed to be doing, Shrapnel pooled their myriad influences and came up with a sound that at its formidable core celebrates pure-to-the-bone thrash and speed metal, but one that never fails to keep eye on the future of the genre. Proudly citing Megadeth, Slayer, Testament, and Exodus as influences, the band also assimilates elements of everything from traditional heavy metal to modern death metal. The result is a thrilling lesson in neck-wrecking sonic violence.

Still buzzing from their triumphant set at Bloodstock in August, Shrapnel are slated to appear alongside Kreator, Overkill, and label mates Corrosion of Conformity at Hammerfest VI in North Wales (March 13-16, tickets are available at www.hammerfest.co.uk).

THE WOUNDED KINGS: Deliver Consolamentum

Candlelight Records today confirms February 25 as the North American release date of Consolamentum, the label debut from English doom metallers The Wounded Kings. Produced by Chris Fielding (Electric Wizard), the album will be available for pre-orders via iTunes and other digital platforms beginning January 14.

Discussing the album earlier this year, guitarist and band founder Steve Mills revealed “this album will be our most expansive and heaviest.” Indeed it is. The album’s opening song, “Gnosis,” clocks in at a mammoth 13 minutes. From there it latches on to your soul as it travels a dark and desolate sonic terrain. “The entire album was recorded and mixed in six days during the hottest week of the year in a studio miles from anything in the Cornish countryside,” shares producer Chris Fielding. “Recorded completely live, it captures the natural feel of the band. I find it to be a real step forward musically and very rewarding.”

Overcoming numerous lineups since their formation in 2005, Mills and the KINGS have amazed audiences with their powerful stage personae. “The Wounded Kings have a mystical and mythical quality which makes them an enormously appealing prospect,” said Terrorizer Magazine of the band’s summertime London performance. “The Wounded Kings sound is so organic that the room actually starts to feel damp and musty,” notes Blabbermouth. The two-time Roadburn alumni are cherished by attendees and the popular festival promoters, who call the band “British doom of staggering power that is made all the more distinct by the unsettling presence of singer Sharie Neyland, who stands on stage almost trance-like, invoking her lyrics in a chanted voice that holds the entire venue in thrall.”

To date the Dartmoor-based five piece has released three full-length studio albums and a well received split album with Richmond, Virginia’s Cough. The band has been finding a growing American audience since the release of their 2011 album, In the Chapel Of The Black Hand. It is the first to feature Neyland. On review Metal Sucks called her “a post-apocalypse metal Grace Jones or Eartha Kitt.”
