XERATH: To Release Third Full Length Album This Autumn

Candlelight Records today confirms September 16 as the North American release date for III (September 15 for Europe), the new album from England’s Xerath. Producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Epica) returns to work with the band on the near 70-minute, 14-song recording. It features artwork by Colin Marks (Suicide Silence, Sylosis, Oceano). Official pre-order for the album will begin August 5 via iTunes, Amazon and other physical and digital music outlets.

Xerath serve up a healthy dose of masterful musicianship and dazzling melody. “Xerath gets the balance right in mashing symphonic arrangements and metal into seamless songs,” says Terrorizer while Metal Sucks notes the band mix, “equal parts high drama and snug, well-built riffage.” Continuing to expand the band’s seasoned sonic complexity, III welcomes new guitarist Conor McGouran, “I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of Xerath,” chimes McGouran. “I was real nervous initially as I was replacing such an amazing player (Owain Williams) but thankfully we immediately gelled as musicians and have become good friends in the process.”

III features a refinement of elements that have now become a unique signature for the band. “We branched out more and enlisted the help of various live performers, such as a live string quartet and classically trained altos and sopranos, to give this album the level of production it required, “shares drummer Michael Pitman. “As we always have, we recorded at multiple studios to capture the sound we were looking for. The biggest addition to the sound this time around is Conor. He had some huge shoes to fill and the first thing we looked for in a guitarist was that he was able to keep that real, soulful element. Conor got this straight away and in him I think people will hear a guitarist who can give you those special moments but then floor you in an instant with savage speed and outright technique. There is a real danger to his playing.”

Xerath have honed their live chops at numerous festivals over the years. 2013 alumni for Bloodstock (along with Voivod, Scar Symmetry, Xentrix, Firewind) and CandleFest (alongside labelmates Altar of Plagues, October File, Crown), the band recently headlined the Metal Hammer-sponsored UK TechFest in Bristol . Pitman says, “TechFest is growing in the UK year on year and Xerath are proud to have been part of its evolution. The gig was amazing and was, for our fans, the first chance to see us play with Conor. It was a solid show.”

One of those unsung gems music fans simply need to hear, Xerath joined the Candlelight roster in 2009. The Basingstoke-based four-piece found a moderate early fan base with the release of their full-length debut. Ultimate Metal said, “you will not find much out there with this degree of sonic perfection.” Two years later the band followed up with the fortified II. Metal Observer noted, “II is a flurry of hard hitting rhythms making for an intense listen that pulls its audience back and forth.” Recalling the recording process of III, Pitman notes, “towards the end of the recording when we started piecing together all the elements, there was a special moment when we all looked at each other and thought we had genuinely made something special. There’s no doubt about it.”

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY: North Carolina crossover icons premiere new sune via Loudwire; IX release day looms

With the official unveiling of Corrosion of Conformity’s IX full-length now less than three weeks away, mammoth music portal, Loudwire, hurls forth an exclusive premiere of sixth rager, “On Your Way.”

Captured by the band alongside long-time friend and colleague John Custer, writing for IX commenced in the early months of 2013 with demoing and recording starting by summer’s end. Completed in January, IX clocks in at nearly forty-five minutes. Sludge, doom, punk… it’s all in the grooves that fans have come to expect from Corrosion of Conformity. Boasts Decibel Magazine in a recent 8/10 review of the offering, “COC stick to the recipe that served them well on both 2012′s self-titled reboot and the follow-up EP, Megalodon: A little hardcore, a little crossover, a whole lotta Southern rock and (especially) doom metal, all stirred, shuffled, layered and frosted in ways that make guessing their next move impossible. But the band’s strategies are more expansive this time out, their tricks more finely woven into the fabric of each song.”

Bedecked in soul, grit and some of guitarist Woodroe Weatherman’s most ferocious lead work yet, “On Your Way,” much like IX as a whole, finds Corrosion of Conformity sonically and conceptually at their most dexterous. Notes Loudwire of the track “‘On Your Way’ is a classic groove-based COC track, delivering a big Southern crunch thanks to guitarist Woody Weatherman. You can hear the influence of Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi in ‘On Your Way,’ as Weatherman injects strong fills into his verses while blazing the strings for a dirty solo during the bridge.”

Plunge head first into the audio enormity of “On Your Way,” now playing at Loudwire, at THIS LOCATION.

And if you missed it, sample “The Nectar,” courtesy of Revolver, at THIS LOCATION.

Quiet for nearly five years following the release of 2005′s In The Arms Of God, Corrosion of Conformity regrouped in 2010. Since then, the band’s relentless commitment to the stage, both stateside and abroad, has unquestionably contributed to their chops in the studio. Corrosion of Conformity released their self-titled full-length (and follow-up to In The Arms Of God) via Candlelight to high praise late February 2012. The album debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 Chart at position 157 and impacted CMJ’s Loud Rock chart at position 8 on its debut week before working its way up to position 1. It remained on the magazine’s popular radio chart Top 10 for eight consecutive weeks. The label reissued the band’s Eye For An Eye (including previously unavailable EP Six Songs With Mike Singing) early November 2012. Blabbermouth called it “one of the hallmarks of street ‘core.’” It was followed by the free release of Scion A/V’s Megalodon EP.

IX will be released via Candlelight Records on June 24th, 2014. For preorders, point your browser HERE (CD and 2xLP) or HERE. For digital orders, point your browser HERE.

ENGLISH DOGS: Sign to Candlelight Records & Announce New Album Details

Candlelight Records today confirms the worldwide signing of thrash/punk crossover icons English Dogs. The label additionally announces the summertime release of the band’s forthcoming new album, The Thing With Two Heads. Clocking in at 42-minutes, it is the first newly recorded material by the band in over two decades. Pre-orders for the album will be available by week’s end via Candlelight’s official Europe (release date July 7th) and North America (release date July 8th) web stores.

Blabbermouth first reported on the The Thing With Two Heads in February, when drummer/founding member Pinch called the nearly completed album “an angry bastard of a record.” Featuring Pinch with vocalist Adie Bailey and guitarist Gizz Butt, the album is a direct result of the successful 2012 North American tour. Decibel Magazine interviewed the band just prior to the tour and questioned how the band felt about the supporting line-up; Toxic Holocaust, The Casualties, Havok all heavily influenced by their music. Gizz noted, “you never know if anything you do will be considered important and even if you have all the self belief in the world you cannot say if anyone will like it or not. It’s amazing that we touched so many great bands. It means that occasionally what you do, when you take that gamble and step out for two or three years to make and promote an album, that you did the right thing.”

Reanimated on their return home from the 14-date tour, ideas started to circulate with snippets committed to tape on both sides of the Atlantic. Pinch shares,” we got back together because we felt like we had unfinished business. Tons of people ended up turning up to the gigs. We started to think maybe we are worth a fuck after all. We started writing and recording and it clicked immediately.” The Thing With Two Heads, he continues, “is the missing link between To the Ends Of the Earth and Forward Into Battle. It’s classic English Dogs punk metal. It doesn’t sound like anyone else, because it wasn’t inspired by anyone else.”

Formed in 1981, English Dogs were at the core of a new wave of English punk. A more aggressive and desperate sound was a critical characteristic of this new hybrid, a sound that would help inspire America’s still developing thrash scene. Alongside label mates GBH and Discharge, the band would release several recordings for Clay Records. Mad Punx and English Dogs and its follow-up Invasion Of The Porky Men hit and maintained lengthy UK indie charts positions. Forward Into Battle (1985, Rot Records), and Where Legend Began (1987, Under One Flag/Music For Nations) would continue to see the band’s international profile rise. An American tour in 1986 would see sold out performances in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Baltimore, New York, Chicago and more. The band would go their separate ways by years end.

The Thing With Two Heads was recorded by producer Dean Pansy.

Thecomplete track listing is:

  • 1. Turn Away From The Light
  • 2. Freak Boy
  • 3. Gorgonized

CANDLELIGHT RECORDS: To reissue Orange Goblin’s Healing Through Fire

Candlelight Records today confirms June 10 as the North American release date of Healing Through Fire. Produced by Mark Daghorn, the reissue includes two live bonus tracks taken from the band’s studio performance at BBC’s famous Maida Vale studio in London for the Radio One Rock Show in August 2007. The album will be available for pre-order via ITunes beginning May 20 and is available for physical pre-order now via Candlelight’s official web store.

Originally released in 2007, Healing Through Fire was issued via Sanctuary Records. The album closed a 3 year recording gap for the band (previous album Thieving From The House of God released 2004 via Rise Above Records) and would be the only album the quartet would release for Sanctuary. Talking with The Aquarian Weekly’s JJ Koczan in 2011, vocalist Ben Ward noted, “it would have been nice to play for our US fans and promote Healing Through Fire, but for some reason or another, it just never materialized.” Orange Goblin would not return to America until 2011; the tour put together to promote the release of a limited 5-cd box set released by Rise Above/Metal Blade Records. It was during The Aquarian Weekly interview that Ward enthusiastically said, “we’re finally going to get the opportunity to play the material from Healing Through Fire for American audiences. We’re going to go out and play four or five songs off that record for the crowd.”

Healing Through Fire is the sixth full-length album from the popular English metal band. Lyrically inspired by The Great Plague and London ’s Great Fire of 1666, the band still considers it to be one of their best albums. Ward says, “this album has been very hard to find in recent times. We are glad that people can once again hear what I consider to be one of our finest albums. Songs like “The Ballad of Solomon Eagle,” They Come Back,” “Vagrant Stomp,” and many more that are regularly featured in our live set can now be heard again. As a band, we are delighted.”

Currently recording the follow-up to the mega-successful A Eulogy For The Damned, Orange Goblin are expected to return to the US to tear up clubs later this year. Working again with Jamie Dodd, bass guitar and drums have been tracked with guitars and vocals expected to be completed by May 17. The final mix is anticipated by early June . The band announced last week a full European tour with doom legend Saint Vitus. Set to begin in France on October 9, the tour will work its way through 13 countries before concluding in Germany on November 14. On the tour’s announcement Ward said, “we are extremely excited to be going on tour with our good friends and long-time heroes Saint Vitus. Vitus are one of the bands that inspired us to form Orange Goblin all those years ago and to be able to promote our new album and celebrate their 35th Anniversary at the same time just blows my mind. This tour is going to be awesome.”

Orange Goblin’s still untitled new album is anticipated for release in October.

Complete tracking listing for Healing Through Fire:

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY: New Album Details Revealed

Candlelight Records today confirms June 24 as the North American release date for IX, the new album from Corrosion Of Conformity. Produced by the band and long-time comrade John Custer, the album and lead single “On Your Way” will be available for pre-orders via ITunes, Amazon, and other popular outlets beginning May 13.

Blabbermouth has been reporting on the recording of the album since early January. Video footage filmed at the recording studio, including vocalist Mike Dean and drummer Reed Mullin laying down vocal tracks, plus guitarist Woodroe Weatherman tracking some of the albums killer riffs, has been seen by fans around the globe. “The making of IX was drawn out because of us having to step away to do other projects,” comments Dean. “I think being forced to step away kept us hungry and then being back on the case with deadlines casting a shadow gave us a ‘failure is no option’ vibe and that really helped the final product.” “This album is another step forward for us,” adds Weatherman. “It seems like we keep heading more and more toward our rawer live sound with the studio recordings.”

Having recently returned from a successful Europe tour, the band is gearing up for the album’s release and a year full of non-stop touring. “Corrosion Of Conformity are very much firing on all cylinders,” noted Terrorizer Magazine preceding the trio of English dates that were part of the larger European tour that had the band visiting ten countries for the first time in more than a year. “We had some good shows,” shares Dean. “To go back to Paris for the first time in years, without a new album, and have the type of response we had just shows me that there is new interest in the more creative heavier rock. And that this younger group of people is actually checking us out is huge to me.”

The band surprised European audiences with some new material from IX. “We had ‘On Your Way’ in the set and people were jamming along,” notes Dean. “It’s up tempo but syncopated. I thought it fit right in even though technically we were still working it out.” “We did sneak in some new material on the European tour,” asserts Weatherman. “It is great to see folks digging on stuff they have never heard before.”

Quiet for nearly five years after the release of 2005’s In the Arms of God, Corrosion Of Conformity regrouped in 2010. These original jam sessions quickly gave way to the trio’s participation at late summer’s The Power of the Riff Festival and later 2011’s Maryland Death Fest. The band’s commitment to the stage, with hundreds of shows performed since 2010, is surely contributing to their chops in the studio. It is without doubt, Dean, Weatherman, and Mullin have revitalized their sonic muse and media and fans alike agree. “Corrosion Of Conformity displays a command of style far beyond anything their 1985 selves could have imagined,” noted Decibel Magazine on review of 2012’s self-titled album. Pitchfork said, “the trio sounds as commanding as it ever has.”

Corrosion Of Conformity released their self-titled album via Candlelight Records to high praise late February 2012. It was the first new material by the North Carolina trio since 2005. “Corrosion Of Conformity is what you want out of a comeback record – not just a reclamation of lost vigor but a meaningful update on a vintage sound,” said Pitchfork. The album debuted on Billboard’s Top 200 chart at position 157 and impacted CMJ’s Loud Rock chart at position 8 on its debut week before working its way up to position 1. It remained on the magazine’s popular radio chart Top 10 for eight consecutive weeks. The label reissued the band’s Eye For An Eye (including previously unavailable EP Six Song With Mike Singing) early November 2012. Blabbermouth called it “one of the hallmarks of street ‘core.” It was followed by the free release of Scion A/V’s Megalodon ep. Writing for IX started in the early months of 2013 with demoing and recording starting by summer’s end. Completed in January, IX clocks in at nearly 45 minutes. Sludge, doom, punk… it’s all in the grooves that fans have come to expect from the band.

Pre-orders for both CD and vinyl formats will be available shortly via Candlelight’s official web stores. Watch for special bundles via the band in the coming weeks.

Currently on a conquest to shred the collective ears of North America, the thrash grind hooligans in King Parrot recently dropped by Housecore Records during their tour stop in New Orleans last week. The band systematically leveled Siberia following a chat with metal legends Philip H. Anselmo and Mike IX Williams about touring, new records, guitar lessons, and burning holes in the ground in the swamps of Louisiana!

King Parrot are only approaching the half-way mark of their live invasion and have a plethora of shows coming up all around the US and Canada. Additionally, the band will be returning to California by popular demand after laying waste to venues with Cattle Decapitation earlier this month.

*Newly added…

Among Australia’s most lethal and extreme new bands, King Parrot is touring in support of their Bite Your Head Off full-length released via Candlelight Records last year. Produced by Jason Fuller (Blood Duster, Dern Rutlidge) and Adam Calaitzis (Damaged, Abramelin), the record manages to capture the raw intensity of their live shows, defying genres with a cross section attack of thrash, grind, punk and hardcore.

“A nice little cross-up of musical ability and amusing visuals (the videos for ‘Dead End’ and ‘Shit On The Liver’ are quality viewing), King Parrot should be able to find their place in a relatively stale and average grind scene. And frankly, that’s what grind needs: A shot in the arm, a mix-up, and some well-intended goofiness… this should do it. 8.5/10″ – Dead Rhetoric

“Every track on Bite Your Head Off is a brutal showing of absolute speed, power and destruction…” – The Metalithic

“I’ve never felt so personally threatened by a record before” – Hysteria Magazine

“…a calculated piece of extreme art, with strong musicianship and a production job skilfully left just on the right side of raw and dirty…” – Beat.com

“…its ceaseless brutality will do much more than just rip your head off… from start to finish it tears you limb from limb 9/10″ – Ghost Cult

“Whether it’s ‘Dead End,’ the shortest, meanest track on the album, or ‘Cold Steel Probe,’ an infectious onslaught of multi-leveled grind that has no qualms about dragging coffins or simply setting them afire, King Parrot’s Bite Your Head Off is a no-brainer, comfortably taking a seat next to other 2012 entries like Strong Intention’s Razorblade Express, Mulletcorpse’s Disinfect, and Kess’khtak’s Nurturing Conditions For Rupture. Killer stuff.” – Metal Observer

KING PARROT: Australian Thrash Grind Assassins Level SXSW; March Through North America Continues

Melbourne thrash grind assassins, King Parrot, successfully leveled SXSW with five scathing performances, including an appearance at this year’s Tone Deaf Touring Showcase featuring Spirit Caravan, Iron Reagan, Pilgrim and more.

Comments the band, “King Parrot had an awesome experience at SXSW; total chaos, but all in all a hugely positive opportunity for the band to get out in front the world’s music industry and show our wares. The feedback we received from some industry heavyweights was that they enjoyed our show and it’s fair to say you’ll be hearing a lot more from King Parrot in the future. For now though, we carry on with our extensive North American tour.”

King Parrot is currently searing the eyes and ears of North America on a near-six-week run of live ambushes. The band is joined by atmospheric blackened doom bringers, Vattnet Viskar, and stoner death doomers, Vaporizer on select dates.

“I’ve never felt so personally threatened by a record before” – Hysteria Magazine

“…a must for any fans of Australian metal or extreme metal 4/5″ – Sputnik Music

OCTOBER FILE: Return With Ambitious Fourth Studio Album

Candlelight Records today confirms June 10 as the North American release date for October File’s The Application of Loneliness, Ignorance, Misery, Love and Despair: An Introspective of the Human Condition. It is the fourth full-length studio album from the English post-punk quartet. The album was recorded at London’s Orgone Studios (Ghost, Electric Wizard, Guapo, Ulver) and produced by Jaime Gomez Arellano (Cathedral, Angel Witch, Gates of Slumber).

Metal Hammer Magazine today premiered “Heroes Are Welcome,” the album’s lead single. A special lyric video, created by 12 Inch Media’s Craig Gowans (Bleed From Within), spotlights the outspoken band’s always jeering lyrics. Speaking recently with Terrorizer Magazine about the album, bassist Steve Beatty notes, “other records have dealt with war, religion and in fact lyrical themes you would more expect to see on a crust punk record. This is why we decided to go in a totally different direction this time. We wanted to delve into personal experience more and not make it obvious we were doing so.”

Recording of the album took place in the early weeks of the new year. The band made decisive changes to both their writing approach and studio location. “We were keen to trying something new,” says Beatty. “We had recorded everything at the Outhouse in Reading but really felt it was time to try something new. We had heard some recordings from there and liked the way Jaime did things – all live, no samples.”

“It’s the first time we ever wrote anything with a pre-conceived idea,” continues Beatty. “The ideas of each individual track were discussed and music written to fit them. Usually we have musical ideas and put them together whilst Ben (Hollyer, vocals) wrote as the track fermented. This time it was different. It was for sure more of a challenge but it was good for us. We were made to work harder, especially Ben. He has written his best lyrics and pushed his voice into new directions.”

Inspired by a wide range of influences, from post-punk heroes like Killing Joke, Amebix, Godflesh and Gang Of Four through to the greats of rock, punk, industrial and underground metal, October File exploded into life with their 2004 debut album A Long Walk On A Short Pier and the How To Lose Friends And Alienate People (EP) from the same year. Embarking on a relentless slew of live performances which has seldom slowed since, the band proved their dedication to playing in front of anyone and everyone and duly attracted the attention of the UK rock and metal press.

Consolidating their notoriety with the release of two additional EPs Monuments (2005) and Hallowed Be Thy Army (2006), which marked the band’s upward shift to the prestigious Candlelight Records label, October File made friends with Killing Joke frontman Jaz Coleman who lent his vocal powers to the band’s second full-length album, Holy Armour From The Jaws Of God. Over the years that followed, October File has performed at numerous high profile festivals in the UK and Europe and have also toured with Killing Joke, Prong, Ministry and Fear Factory. The buzz around the band led to an association with Godflesh/Jesu main man Justin Broadrick who offered to produce one of two distinct versions of their third full-length album, Our Souls To You, which was released to a whirlwind of positive reviews in 2010.

Celebrating their ten year anniversary, October File are excited of the promise the new album allows them. The band is expected to return to the road shortly after album release; they have already confirmed their slot on this year’s Bloodstock Festival set for August 7-10 at Catton Hall in Derby. Ticket information is available at www.bloodstock.co.uk.
