ABSU: Announces Continuation Of North American Tour

Absu today announce details on their upcoming tour, titled North American Connexus Continuation. The ten-city tour will see the band perform a complete set with music spanning throughout their twenty-two year recording career. This excursion is a follow-up mini-tour by the Texas-based mythological occult metal trio since the release of Abzu—the second of a planned trilogy of recordings.

Vocalist/drummer Proscriptor shares, “Since the release of our latest recording, Abzu, the response has been extremely vehement and now is the perfect moment to continue spreading the album’s essence throughout uncharted regions the band did not perform in earlier this year. We purposely waited until the timing was ideal to embark on this additional journey, as we shall continue contaminating the communities with our craft of Mythological Occult Metal.”

Proscriptor also adds, “We have begun the composition/arrangement process for the next album, suitably titled Apsu, which is the Sumerian-Akkadian spelling of the band moniker. We shall wait until the new album is released before we present any of the new material in a live atmosphere.”

Abzu, the band’s seventh studio album, was released October 2011. The album was recorded/mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus) and features original works by Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Ghost, Watain, Entombed, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader, Etc.) Proscriptor commented, “With this record, we appended dirtier elements of psychedelia and fusion. Lyrically, it descends deeper into Enki’s lower world as well the Thelemic Magic(k) System.” He added, “This album is not a ‘natural progression’ from previous releases, but a feat of metaphysical conquest and murkiness.”

Absu came to prominence with the release of their 1993 debut, Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L. Each album saw continual expansion of the band’s now highly regarded artistic vision and international fanbase. It was with 2001′s Tara that the band truly arrived. The album reached top lists of countless magazines worldwide. Years, however, would pass before any new material would be recorded. In late 2007, the band finally announced their re-awakening. Now teamed with London-based Candlelight Records, the band would take nearly sixteen months writing/recording their sixth album. Absu, featuring contributions from members of King Diamond, Mayhem, Melechesh, Firstborn and Enthroned, was released early 2009.

PESTILENCE: Album Confirmed For November Release

Candlelight Records today confirms November 11th as the North American release date for Obsideo, the new album from Dutch metal extremists Pestilence. Produced by vocalist/guitarist Patrick Mameli, the album is the band’s inaugural recording for the label and first new material from the four-piece since 2011.

“We have gone beyond our human limits to achieve the highest form of brutal music,” reveals Mameli when discussing the album’s creation. “The musicianship is such high quality; it is really ten of the most demanding songs written in death metal.”

Together with long-time guitarist Patrick Uterwijk, Mameli, bassist George Maier and drummer Dave Haley deliver a blistering and genre-lifting effort. “I am chuffed to have Dave in the lineup,” confirmed Mameli earlier this year while discussing the band’s updated cast. “He is one of the best extreme drummers in the world and his talent bring Pestilence to new levels. George is a young and talented bass player that will turn some heads. Both are really down to earth and real easy going guys. Patrick, of course, is my most respected and long-going friend and musician.”

Obsideo boasts Mameli and his innovative guitar work. Utilizing eight-string guitars for the album’s recording, the celebrated musician expands his already massive arsenal of riffs. “The eight string guitar opens a lot of doors,” notes Mameli. “It gives lots of new musical options and allows us to make the music sound more brutal than before. It also forces me to sing in a higher pitch because I don’t want my vocals in the way of the low-tuned guitar parts. My vocals sound more intense and manic than before.”

Formed in 1986, Pestilence took influence from early American and German thrash metal to cultivate its now signature death metal sound. Recording four albums before disbanding in 1994, the band helped to usher the rise in popularity for the genre. Fourteen years later the band reformed; releasing two albums and exciting fans with live performances around the globe. “Mameli and company chose to steer efforts down paths previously unexplored whilst maintaining their vintage essence,” noted Chronicles of Chaos on the band’s 2009 album, Resurrection Macabre (Mascot). Pestilence plans to begin touring in support of Obsideo in the early months of 2014; North America to be included in their worldwide takeover. The band’s last stateside performance was as a featured artist on the second annual 70,000 Tons of Metal Cruise that left Miami shores on January 23, 2012.

“Pestilence proved that four kids from a small industrially defunct town were ready to overthrow Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and the rest of the world if need be.” — Decibel

HAVOK: New Video Now Playing At Loudwire

Today the metal technicians at Loudwire hurl forth an exclusive premiere of “Worse Than War,” the latest video from Denver thrash assassins Havok. Directed by Roy Warner who worked on both “From the Cradle to the Grave” and “Point of No Return” clips, the tune comes by way of the recently unleashed Unnatural Selection full-length and addresses the eight stages of genocide: classification, symbolization, dehumanization, organization, polarization, preparation, extermination and denial.

Check out “Worse Than War,” THIS LOCATION.

Released earlier this year via Candlelight Records, Unnatural Selection was produced by Terry Date (Pantera, Overkill, Deftones), mastered by James Murphy (Testament, Death) and continues to reap critical hails from fans and critics domestically and abroad. Metal Injection crowns Unnatural Selection “a contender for one of the best albums of this year because there are simply no flaws in the design,” while MetalSucks notes, “Havok proudly carry the torch of everything awesome about the genre: irrepressible energy, flesh-singeing velocity, and razor-sharp anthems custom made for the purpose of shotgunning beers.” In an impressive 4/5 rating, About.com gushes, “Filled to the brim with headbang-inducing riffs, politically-charged lyrics and guitarist/vocalist David Sanchez’s snarl leading the way, Unnatural Selection would fit right in with Megadeth’s back catalog…. Wrap it all up with Terry Date behind the controls, and Havok just might be in contention for thrash album of the year.” Sputnik Musica agrees, “With Unnatural Selection, Havok has distinguished themselves as the frontrunners of the New Wave of Thrash Metal movement.”

Havok is currently wrapping up a massive North American live takeover that kicked off on July 20th in Juarez, Mexico and included a stop at this year’s Heavy Mtl Festival in Montreal. Additional Fall dates will be announced in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for details.

Havok is guitarist/vocalist David Sanchez, bassist Mike Leon, guitarist Reece Scruggs, and drummer Pete Webber. The band uses/endorses ESP Guitars, Charvel Guitars, EMG Pickups, Ernie Ball, Peavy Amplification, EVH, Pearl Drums, Trick Drums, and Sabian Cymbals.
