ABSU: Announces Special North American Tour

Absu today announces details on their upcoming tour, titled North American Connexus Conjuration. The 26-city tour will see the band perform two full sets with music spanning their 20-year recording career. It is the first full tour by the Texas-based mythological occult trio since the release of Abzu, the second of a planned trilogy of recordings.

Vocalist/drummer Proscriptor shares, “Since the release of our latest recording, Abzu, the response has been extremely vehement and now is the perfect moment to commemorate the album’s essence throughout North America. We purposely waited until the timing was ideal to embark on this journey, as we shall contaminate the communities with our craft of Mythological Occult Metal. We’re attempting to divide the concerts into two sections: the first act will showcase songs spanning from our entire discography, as the second act will focus on Phase Two from the album Tara: The Cythrául Klan’s Scrutiny. For the past couple of years, many of Absu’s followers have requested specified songs from this chapter of Tara, so it is our aspiration to give the people what they want.”

Abzu, the band’s seventh studio album, was released October 2010. The album was mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus) and features original works by Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader). Proscriptor commented, “With this record, we are appending dirtier elements of psychedelia and fusion. Lyrically, it descends deeper into Enki’s lower world as well the Enochian Magic(k) System.” He added, “This album is not a ‘natural progression’ from previous releases, but a feat of metaphysical conquest and murkiness.”

Absu came to prominence with the release of their 1993 debut, Barathrum: V.I.T.R.I.O.L. Each album saw continual expansion of the band’s now highly regarded artistic vision and international fanbase. It was with 2001’s Tara that the band truly arrived. The album reached top lists of countless magazines worldwide. Years, however, would pass before any new material would be recorded. In late 2007, the band finally announced their re-awakening. Now teamed with London-based Candlelight Records, the band would take nearly sixteen months writing/recording their sixth album. Absu, featuring contributions from members of King Diamond, Mayhem, Melechesh, Firstborn and Enthroned, was released early 2009.

HAVOK: New Video Premieres Today

Havok’s latest video has premiered today via Bloody Disgusting. “Point Of No Return” is the title track to the band’s EP, released last Spring as a tide-me-over while the band continued their non-stop touring. The video was directed by Roy Warner and filmed on location in Detroit, Michigan.

Discussing the video, vocalist/guitarist Dave Sanchez elaborates, “The lyrics of ‘Point Of No Return’ are highly interpretable, but the message of the video pretty simple: The world as we know it is a delicate place and we have never had such a high capacity to destroy the human race as we do now. At some point, our self-made concoction of nuclear/biological weaponry, ancient superstitious beliefs, nationalism, corruption, ignorance, and conflicting ideologies is going to become lethal, on a global scale. We live in a time like no other and it’s obvious that if we don’t change our behavior, it’s only a matter of time before the world is extinguished at the hand of fanatics. It’s literally within everyone’s power to leave the world a little nicer than we found it. Don’t believe everything you’re told: Think for yourself.”

Director Roy Warner notes, “Working with the guys from Havok was great. They had awesome ideas to start out with and build from; wanting to showcase real life as the concept. It really illustrates the depths of human depravity in the past, present and what we can expect from the future if attitudes don’t change.”

Havok, called “the finest thrash band in existence” by PopDose, released their full-length debut, Burn, mid-2009. The record found an immediate fanbase and the curiosity of media around the globe. Time Is Up would follow in 2011. “Havok have hit their stride,” said Decibel Magazine in review of the album. “Havok is everything that is great about thrash,” added Terrorizer. Now with the band busy at work recording their new full-length, anticipated for early summer release, Havok fans can expect the Denver-based thrashers to keep an active schedule for 2013. Sanchez says, “We’re currently wrapped up in the studio writing our new album. We should be finished recording in March and then, in usual Havok fashion, we’ll tour practically all year! There are lots of exciting things coming up in 2013. Keep an eye out for tour dates and we’ll see all of you on the road soon! Until then, spread the word and support heavy metal.”

Havok is guitarist/vocalist Dave Sanchez, bassist Jesse de los Santos, guitarist Reece Scruggs, and drummer Pete Webb.

DEMON LUNG: Complete Recording Of Debut

Las Vegas-based doomsters Demon Lung have now completed initial recording of their debut album at Sharkbite Studios, in Oakland, California. The album is currently being mixed by Billy Anderson at his studio in Portland, Oregon with an anticipated release late this Spring.

Las Vegas Weekly recently included Demon Lung on their Top 10 Local Bands To Watch In 2013. Drummer Jeremy Brenton confirmed to the newspaper that the album will be a concept about “the long begotten son of Satan, who’s been sent to earth to assemble the three parts of the devil’s bible so that we can speak the name of god in reverse and undo creation.” He adds, “when you say it out loud it’s pretty funny, but it’s some pretty epic sh*t.”

Candlelight announced the signing of Demon Lung on November 28th. The band features guitarist Phil Burns, bassist Patrick Warren, and vocalist Shanda Fredrick with Brenton. On signing with Candlelight, the band notes, “we are very honored to join the Candlelight roster. To be included among such talented artists is humbling and we thank them for giving us the opportunity.”

Demon Lung have been called “earthy yet horror-themed doom metal a la Candlemass,” by Metal Hammer. Ave Noctum noted, “Demon Lung has a deft touch and solid sound. Their music is clearly from the soul.” The band has performed alongside Pentagram, High On Fire, Jucifer, Witch Mountain, and Castle among others. The band has announced several Las Vegas-area dates upcoming including February 10’s performance at The Bunkhouse Saloon (supporting Castle), and February 16 at Cheyenne Saloon (supporting Gravehill and Avenger of Blood). More dates are expected.

Demon Lung released a video to their official YouTube page recalling their time in the studio with Anderson. It can be viewed at HERE.

CORROSION OF CONFORMITY: Start Writing New Material

Corrosion Of Conformity has begun writing material for their next album, the follow-up to the well-received self-titled record released via Candlelight Records late February 2012, the reissue of their Eye For An Eye debut, and recently released Scion A/V EP Megalodon. The album, untitled at this time, will again feature the trio of vocalist/bassist Mike Dean, guitarist Woodroe Weatherman, and drummer Reed Mullin.

Last week the band announced their first live performance for the New Year at the annual Metal Fest on April 13th. It will be the first Corrosion Of Conformity appearance ever in Chile. Mike Dean comments, “We have been talking about going to South American forever and with Chile being a big source of so much of our Facebook traffic, I know it’s going to be epic. Another chance for us to do a festival with Down is always a very good thing.”

The festival follows the completion of the band’s recent US tour that concluded in southern California alongside High On Fire. The trio was also a featured participant on Barge From Hell that left Florida shores on December 7. Dean notes, “The cruise was pretty awesome. We had Rick and Jonathan from Torche masquerading as our crew and watching their antics alone was worth the trip. The seas were calm so there was no hurling over the bow.”

Corrosion Of Conformity continues to promote the self-titled album in interviews with media as well spreading word on their recently released Megalodon EP. The EP, sponsored by the amazing folks at Scion A/V, is available for free now via various outlets. Dean says, “The EP was written, recorded, and released in two months time. It really challenged us in a good way. It feels good to get two releases out in one year and I expect that we will continue that level of productivity.” Continuing he shares, “The self-titled album is holding up very well for me. There is a wide variety of material there. It’s all definitely COC but at the same time everything is really a stretch for us. Within the realm of never being totally satisfied, I am very happy with how it came out.”

Formed in Raleigh, North Carolina in 1982, Corrosion Of Conformity quickly transformed heavy music. Politically charged and socially aware, the band has influenced countless others and today remains humble about their accomplishments. With over 1.1 million albums sold in the United States alone, the band continues to find new fans via non-stop touring.

“Thirty years into an expansive and rollercoaster career, Corrosion Of Conformity have done the major label song-and-dance and survived, and markedly changed musical directions more than once. Their latest isn’t a comeback album or an example of diminishing returns. It’s a testament to immense talent and the elusive endowment of staying power.” – Invisible Oranges

“In an era when doom metal keeps growingbleaker and artier, and hardcore skews ever more dire, Corrosion Of Conformity serves as a reminder that swagger, soul, and songcraft still have a place in the heavy-rock underground. Corrosion Of Conformity, indeed.” – Pitchfork

“Corrosion Of Conformity will challenge as many fans as it excites. And that, of course, suits COC’s legacy, no matter which era holds your allegiance.” – Indy Week
